Providing strategic advice and guidance, and supporting leadership
The Sustaine board is an independent high-level forum of sustainability experts providing advice and guidance on sustainable development and ensuring that there is integration across policy areas.
Individual members, highly knowledgeable and networked in their own sectors, take a lead in key policy areas, to ensure that the principles of sustainable development are embedded firmly. They provide strategic advice through a ‘support and challenge’ role to organisations.
Sustaine members have worked on the following areas of work:
- Regional Funding Allocations programme
- Delivering a Sustainable Transport System
- Overweight and obesity across NHS South of Tyne
- Sustainable housing
- North East Strategy, a single integrated strategy for North East England
Integrated Regional Framework
Sustaine provides strategic direction on sustainable development through an integrated framework. The Integrated Regional Framework (IRF) is the framework for sustainable development in North East England. It presents a shared vision, signed up to by key partners, which will ensure that key strategies share a common purpose in working towards, and achieving, a more sustainable future. We must adhere to the principles set out in the IRF if we are to achieve a better quality of life for the people of North East England.

It also maintains a link to the work of other champion bodies via a national network convened by the Sustainable Development Commission.
