About Sustaine
Sustaine is the independent champion body for sustainable development working across North East England. We provide a ‘support and challenge’ role to all organisations, increasing awareness of the issues involved and, just as importantly, the links between them. Our aim is to ensure the principles of sustainable development are embedded within our key strategies, policies, plans and programmes, helping us to move towards a more sustainable future.
We work with policy makers, local government, public agencies and private business to embed sustainable development across North East England.
In our role as champion body for sustainable development, we seek to:
- be a catalyst for change
- provider of strategic advice
- promote best practice and new ideas
- sponsor innovative projects
Sustaine will achieve this by:
Informing and influencing key strategies and their intergration.
- Support the development of key strategies
- Input to the sustainability appraisal process for key strategies
- Ensure sustainability issues, in key strategies, are dealt with in an integrated manner
- Promote debate and challenge offering independent thinking on issues and appropriate informed challenge to the evidence base.
Providing high-level advocacy and support for sustainable development.
- Provide strategic advice through a ‘support and challenge’ role to organisations across North East England
- Provide strategic direction on sustainable development through an integrated framework
- Promote and support leadership across North East England on sustainable development
- Maintain strong links with national sustainable development organisations
Increasing the awareness and understanding of the holistic nature of sustainable development.
- Identify opportunities to facilitate independent thinking and support cross –sectoral discussions
- Collate and promote best practice and new ideas from within North East England and elsewhere
Acting as a partnership platform to support and enable action.
- Champion Sustaine initiatives
- Provide advice and support to facilitate action
- Engage and liaise with appropriate national and local sustainable development networks
